We’ve all seen the royal weddings where the princess seems to float down the aisle with a twenty foot train flowing behind her. Such an elegant and romantic image.
But is a long train on your wedding gown really the best choice every time for a destination elopement in the mountains?
Truth being told, if the weather is right, the images made from a bride in a white wedding gown with a long train can be amazing.
But it doesn’t mean that there is not a price to pay to sport that beautiful train in rugged terrain during your destination wedding or elopement.
Brides may find that the long train to be quite an encumbering nuisance when navigating over boulders and rocky outcrops that make the mountain landscape so picturesque but also very unlike a church aisle that most wedding gowns are designed to traverse.
As you can see with the bride below, there are sometimes places where you may get snagged on roots or rocks.
Your train may also pick up debris, like sticks and leaves. It is most certainly going to get dirty, especially if there has been a recent rain.
Long trains in mountain destination elopements may create situations that challenge your footing and balance as well. Not how the groom is assisting his bride to maneuver over these beautiful tree features.
What about waterfall elopements?
Similarly, at waterfall destination elopements, the train reflected in the water of a pool beneath a waterfall is a gorgeous photo.
And if a bride is adventurous, standing in a pool of water with that long train flowing back is simply amazing.
Is there a place for the short dress in wedding attire?
The first advantage to a short dress is that it is much easier to keep clean and dry.
A second advantage is mobility. Rugged rock outcrops, boulders and trees roots are not going to snag your dress.
A third advantage – and possibly for some brides – a more important consideration for the short wedding dress is the advantage of showing off your beautiful legs.
Of course the weather is very unpredictable for destination elopements in the mountains, but this bride shows that a short dress can even work great in winter!
This couple surely demonstrates that the short dress can be elegant, too.
And it can be incredibly sexy as well!
Whether to have a long train on your wedding gown for YOUR destination elopement in the mountains is really your choice. We do not have a preference here at Simple I Do’s. But if you do, just be aware of the upsides and downsides and choose what is right for you!
