Katie and Linsey came to Asheville from Cincinnati to have a scenic destination elopement. After discussing many potential locations, the couple settled on Waterrock Knob. They chose Waterrock Knob because they were hoping for a less crowded outdoor location. In preparation, they came and hiked to the top the day before their ceremony and loved it, so everyone went with there as scheduled the next day.
Weather in the mountains is always quite unpredictable, and it certainly was on unusual on their wedding day. The wind was blowing briskly and a low lying cloud of mist was rushing through the valley and flying up over the mountain top. The humidity made it a bit chilly at times, but it could not have made for a more beautiful scene creating stunning backdrops that changed moment by moment.
Melanie performed the ceremony at the peak and all three ladies had the best time! Mark captured the amazing images that you see here. It truly was a dream wedding for Linsey and Katie, so Simple I Do’s loves to tell their story.
Katie and Linsey met at the school where they both worked. Linsey as a Spanish teacher and Katie was a school counselor. With Linsey being from Chicago and Katie being from Cincinnati, they started their initial friendship by betting on the Reds and Cubs [baseball] series. Several years passed before they reconnected and developed something they both knew was very special. For them, falling in love was a gradual process as over time their love grew deeper and stronger. In general, Katie and Linsey definitely knew they were meant to be when they realized that they both understood and respected each others individuality and independence. Then, there never was a time that either of them had any doubt that they were with the person that they were meant to spend the rest of their lives with. They truly felt like they had found their soulmate.
On the proposal… “We both knew we wanted to marry each other but had to wait until gay marriage was legalized. Once it was (WooHoo!) we started to have the discussion of marriage more seriously. In January of 2018 we looked at rings and decided we would get engaged sometime that summer. We finally picked out the rings we wanted and planned to put them aside until our schedules slowed down a bit. All the while, Linsey was planning something very special for the proposal, without Katie’s knowledge. On May 9th, Linsey planned a dinner at Katie’s brother’s (Joey) house with a few of Katie’s family members. Linsey was coaching tennis at the time and was meeting Katie and her other brother, Tommy, at Joey’s house. On the way to Joey’s house, Tommy stopped by a small, quaint chapel and cemetery (Old Armstrong Chapel in Indian Hill, OH). It is where Katie’s mom was laid to rest in 1982 and May 9th is her mom’s birthday. After walking down the path of rose petals, Linsey was waiting at the chapel with both rings and Katie was absolutely shocked! After many laughs and happy tears, Katie said YES!”
Something unique about Katie, is that she once got to dance on stage with Prince at the Rio in Las Vegas. Another is that Katie sleeps next to a jar of purple M&M’s and her license plate is “PRPL ONE”. A cool fact about Linsey is that she is bilingual and has lived in both Spain and Mexico.
“We both absolutely love laughing with each other! It was important that in our vows we stated that we promised to “always make laughter our medicine” (even after Linsey slid down the rock in her wedding dress)! :-)”
Katie loves Linsey’s thoughtfulness, kindness and patience while Linsey loves Katie’s sense of humor, compassionate nature and zest for life.
From Katie:

“[Simple I Do’s], we can’t thank you enough! It has been fun telling people all about our weekend and the very special memory that we made!
BEST WISHES!
Katie and Linsey
Coincidentally, while we were there celebrating with Katie and Linsey, two other couples got engaged on the mountain top that day. We also met a couple who came there for their First Anniversary and many more people who did come by shared congratulations to this lovely couple as they came through.
